Abstract [eng] Relationships between self-perception of aging, health control and quality of life among older adults, Eglė Skurkaitė, Vilnius: Vilniaus University, 2022, 61 p. Life expectancy is increasing and improving quality of life of older adults is an important issue. As ageing is an inevitable part of a long life and as it is often associated with worsening health, in this study, we wanted to analyse whether self-perception of aging, believes about health control and the quality of life are related to each other. Also, we wanted to identify predictors of the quality of life. The aim of this study was to establish relationships between self-perception of aging, health locus of control and quality of life among older adults. 143 participants aged 55 to 89 (M = 60,74, SD = 7,56) of which 109 (76,2 %) were female and 34 (23,8 %) were male completed Brief Ageing Perceptions Questionnaire (B-APQ), Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale and THE WHOQOL – Bref Quality of Life Questionnaire. Results showed that positive self-perception of ageing correlated positively with quality of life whilst negative self-perception of ageing corelated negatively with quality of life. Internal health locus of control correlated positively with quality of life, chance health locus of control correlated negatively and powerful others health locus of control corelated negatively with the physical health component. Chance and powerful other health locus of control both corelated positively with negative self-perception of ageing. Internal health locus of control corelated positively with positive self-perception of ageing and negatively corelated with two components, showing negative self-perception of ageing. Self-perception of ageing was an important predictor of three out of four quality of life domains. When controlling for self-perception of ageing, health locus of control was important predictor only of the physical health domain of quality of life.
