People with cerebral palsy face various problems that can affect their psychological well-being; therefore, it is important to carry out studies examining their psychological well-being and the related factors. The aim of this study is to define relationships between psychological well-being, social participation and usage of internet social networks among people with cerebral palsy. 58 people took part in the study: 35 women (60,3 %) and 23 men (39,7 %). Their age ranged from 23 to 56 (M = 35,71, SD = 8,75). 56 participants filled out an online questionnaire and 2 filled out a paper questionnaire. The following instruments were used in the study: Lithuanian Psychological Well-Being Scale ((LPGS-S) Kairys, Bagdonas, Liniauskaitė and Pakalniškienė, 2013), Participation Scale Short Simplified ((PSSS), Coltof, 2018), and the questionnaire on the usage of internet social networks developed by the author of this study. The obtained results demonstrated that social participation is significantly related with the overall psychological well-being. In case of the experienced increasing social participation restrictions, psychological well-being decreases. The usage of online social networks is significantly related with the overall psychological well-being. If the use of online social networks increases, psychological well-being increases as well. Moreover, it turned out that social participation and the usage of online social networks significantly predict the overall psychological well-being. Keywords: cerebral palsy, psychological well-being, social participation, usage of internet social networks. |
