Abstract [eng] |
The main objective of the master's thesis is to review the latest literature data on the children's sepsis problems, early recognition, and suggested first-hour management schemes. Although epidemiological data are insufficient, morbidity and mortality rates remain high despite the availability of antibacterial therapy and vaccines. The pediatric sepsis definition is still waiting for an update, making it difficult to further explore new methods of early management. Challenging early diagnosis can lead to delayed treatment and poor disease outcomes. The master's thesis consists of three parts: the pediatric sepsis problem description, the possibilities of early diagnosis, and the first-hour sepsis management, and its impact on the outcomes. Methods. During the writing of the master’s thesis, the literature sources were searched and examined using the sources selection strategy with the help of the scientific medical literature database “PubMed”. Selected literature sources were picked out by selection criteria – 57 suitable literature sources were found. Results and conclusions. The master's thesis covered the pediatric sepsis problem aspects - the epidemiology, the changing etiology, and the still pending definition, which does not allow for further research on early management. The pediatric sepsis problem is relevant worldwide due to its high morbidity and mortality. Early diagnostic is based on specific clinical symptoms and laboratory markers. Adapting the first-hour pediatric sepsis protocol helps manage sepsis, and prevents septic shock development, and its long-term effects. The most scientific protocol proven points are blood culture, antibiotics, and fluid bolus. The outcomes of pediatric sepsis are determined by the timely application of sepsis management guidelines. |
