Abstract [eng] Introduction: Boerhaave syndrome is a rare and dangerous pathology commonly treated with surgery. There are currently few published data examining the results of surgical treatment. Methods: Data from patients treated for Boerhaave Syndrome at the Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Center of Vilnius University Hospital in Santara since 2010 were collected. A total of 11 patients were included in the retrospective analysis. A review of international literature published since 2000 has been conducted. Results: All patients at our center were male, with a mean age of 61 years. Everyone had a history of vomiting. 4 patients had all components of the Mackler's triad. The median time from the onset of symptoms to the start of treatment was 17 hours. In patients treated late, all postoperative results were inferior. Conclusions: The results of our study showed that early initiation of surgical treatment is very important in predicting the outcome of treatment. Foreign authors agree with that. Mortality and complication rates for patients treated at our center are similar to those experienced by foreign patients. A larger number of subjects is needed to formulate sound treatment recommendations. Key words: Boerhaave syndrome, spontaneous esophageal rupture, surgical treatment.
