Abstract [eng] Background: Stiff-person syndrome is a disorder of the central nervous system that manifests by progressive rigidity together with muscle spasms of the axial and limb muscles. After its initial description in 1956, significant progress has been made in its diagnosis and treatment, although there are still unclear elements about its pathogenesis. Case report: a patient initially presenting for suspected multiple sclerosis was diagnosed with Lumbago with sciatic neuralgia in 2018. After she responded poorly to the treatment she was re-examined in September 2018, where a positive test for glutamic acid decarboxylase alpha antibodies confirmed the diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome. Continuous treatment with oral diazepam resulted in immediate decrease of symptoms and together with repetitive plasmapheresis helped to control the disease for next 3.5 years.
