Abstract [eng] SUMMARY Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. This disease is associated with mood disorders, especially depression. Mood disorders are associated with a higher risk of death, late diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, higher risk of disease activation, progression, and increased disability. In order to properly diagnose and treat affective disorders, it is important to find out their cause. This final thesis examines the clinical case of a 46-year-old man with multiple sclerosis and depressive disorder. The patient came to the treatment facility complaining of anxiety, insomnia and said that he was hearing women‘s voices that were berating him. He was hospitalised. From the patient‘s anamnesis vitae it is known that he had graduated in law, worked briefly as an interrogator and later he taught students at university. The patient feels weakness and fatigue episodically for many years. In 2004, he was diagnosed with moderate depression, and in 2016, multiple sclerosis. Since then, the patient's mood has deteriorated markedly, his sleep has been disturbed, anxiety has arisen, and a feeling of hopelessness appeared. Since 2016, the patient has been hospitalized many times due to unstable mood, episodic anxiety, irritability, destructive, uncontrollable emotions that are overwhelming the patient, and poor sleep. The origins of mood disorders in multiple sclerosis vary widely, but it is mainly related to the pathological changes in the central nervous system caused by multiple sclerosis. In the case of the patient described in this paper, the onset of depression may be mainly associated with an active multiple sclerosis focus in the brain and psychosocial factors.
