Abstract [eng] Aim of the study. Based on the scientific literature, to review and provide summarized information on the characteristics of endometriosis for adolescent girls, the factors that contribute to diagnostic delays, and treatment options. Methods. The literature search was performed in the PubMed international database. 688 publications were found in the search results, of which 632 articles did not correspond to the topic and were rejected. The literature review includes 56 articles in English published in 2007-2022. Results. Adolescent endometriosis differs in its clinical and histological characteristics from its onset in women. Adolescents are more likely to experience non-cyclical pelvic pain. In addition, laparoscopically visualized endometriotic lesions for young girls differ in appearance from those seen for adults. Subtle atypical red and clear lesions are more common for adolescents. Treatment of endometriosis for young girls is based on the recommendations of adult women because there are limited number of studies in the adolescent age group. Conclusions. Diagnosis of endometriosis for adolescents can take several years due to the non-specific symptoms of the disease, the different clinical manifestations among young girls and adult women, and the rare use of laparoscopic diagnosis in the adolescent age group. Therefore, a clinical diagnosis of endometriosis without histological confirmation should be considered for adolescents with a history, physical examination, and imaging techniques that suspect that timely and appropriate treatment of an individual's ability to stop the disease and reduce the risk of serious complications in the future.
