Abstract [eng] There is a great variety of different definitions of sexual identity and sexual orientation in recent scientific literature. Questioning their sexual identity is exceptionally relevant amongst teenagers. In addition, teenage pregnancy, giving birth, abortions and sexually transmitted infections remain relevant problems for the society. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate Lithuanian students’ knowledge and attitude towards sexual health. The questionnaire for 14-19 years old Lithuanian adolescents was translated and adopted from CHAT (Chicago Healthy Adolescents and Teens) programme and World Health Organization Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme questionnaires. The invitation to take part in the study was sent to 136 schools in Lithuania twice: 8 schools refused to participate, 112 schools didn’t respond to the invitation. The data for the survey (n=430) was collected from 16 schools, which agreed to participate in the study. The main findings (covering sexual identity and sexual orientation of teenagers) in our study were compared with similar data from foreign countries. 13 % of Lithuanian adolescents are sexual minority, 3,8 % are questioning their sexual identity, 2,6 % are transgender. Taking into consideration both the results from our study and findings from other studies, there is a tendency of more teenagers (especially among girls) considering themselves as sexual minority, which may be due to more liberal public approach. Although internet remains the main source of information on sexual health, adolescents still lack valid and truthful information, especially on modes of transmission and effective prevention of sexually transmitted infections. A significant part of Lithuanian teenagers has already started their sexual life. More permissive attitude towards sexual intercourse before marriage, “virginity” is being observed both in Lithuania and abroad, there are similar sexual behaviour standards applied for boys and girls.
