Abstract [eng] Ion exchange chromatography is used for the separation and analysis of electrically charged compounds. The surface of the media particles used in ion exchange chromatography contains charged or ionizable functional groups, the density of which determines the chromatographic properties of the media. The media production process is often difficult and hardly controllable. The production procedure of silica-based cation exchange media, occurring chemical reactions and their influence on the quality of the final product were investigated in this work. The influence of individual production stages on the quality of the final product were investigated. A direct relationship was found between the quantities of reagents used in the production process and the performance of the final product. The stability of the final product in an acidic medium and its resistance to mechanical impact were investigated. After the experiments, changes in the production process were proposed, which ensure a repetitive media production process and allow the production of a final product that meets the specifications.
