Abstract [eng] The object of the research: the territories of the military training ground and military training, possibilities of renovation and development. Aim of the work: To evaluate the functionality of Gaižiūnai military training ground using remote methods. Tasks: 1. To review the legal acts that regulates the functioning of the Gaižiūnai military training ground; 2. To assess the current situation of the military training ground and the military training territory; 3. To examine the assessment of the development of the military training ground and the military training area using distance methods (orthophotographic material and Sentinel satellite images); 4. To compile a questionnaire for the opinion of civil respondents about the development of the military training ground and training territory; 5. Carry out an assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities (SWOT) of the development of the Gaižiūnai military training ground; 6. Perform landscape assessment analysis. Research methods: analysis of literature sources using remote sensing data from Sentinel-2A satellites to solve the NDVI problem, analysis of orthophotos, survey of civilian correspondents, SWOT analysis, scoring of the current state of the landscape. 1. After reviewing the legal basis of the selected territory, it has been established that the preparatory works for the development of the landfill and the training territory have been started. Legislative clarifications are planned and the taking of private land to meet public needs has started. 2. Assessing the existing territory, we can say that the selected part of the territory of Gaižiūnai landfill is characterized by fertile soil, with good infrastructure, where there are many forest lands. Buildings have been identified in the territory, no water bodies have been observed in the territory. 3. Examining the possibilities of renovation of the military training ground and military training territory using satellite images in the period of 2018-2021, it was established that the index in the forest area decreased by 2 percent, in urban areas increased by 10 percent, and in water bodies the index changed by 56 percent. The high value of the index indicates that the condition of the vegetation in the area is very good. The area is characterized by fertile soil and part of the roads have been replaced with asphalt, which improves the well-being of the infrastructure. At the expense of the grown park, the landfill was expanded, new buildings were built, and parking lots were formed. 4. After analyzing the data of the 121 respondents, 55 respondents indicated that they knew about the Rukla military training ground and training area. For 103 participants, it is not important to choose a new location for the military training ground and training area. 35 percent of respondents indicated the best place for development in Kaunas County. As many as 92 respondents indicate that there is insufficient information on the planned development of the landfill. 5. By conducting an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities (SWOT), we can see the most important issues that affect the expected development of the landfill. The main weakness is that the base will cover a large area that has protected parts. The Strength is that international cooperation will increase and will be taken preventive environmental actions. The risk is that exercise may have a negative impact on human health, animal and plant welfare. The possibility of new technologies being developed and measures being taken to protect the environment from the effects of the exercise. 6. After evaluating the territory of Gaižiūnai military training ground and military training, the landscape of Dumsiai forest was evaluated with 74 points out of a possible 170 points, which makes up 44 percent from the maximum number of points.
