Abstract [eng] Small and medium enterprises are important, as they contribute to the growth of the country's economy by creating employment opportunities and promoting technological innovation. Small and medium enterprises are suppliers to large industrial organizations and play an important role not only as a catalyst but also as a key driver for sustainable growth. Small and medium enterprises employ the majority of the world's workforce and often have fewer financial and human resources than larger companies. Leadership is a way for entrepreneurial leaders to reshape their organizations to take advantage of new opportunities and improve their ability to invent the diversity they need to compete in a highly unpredictable environment. Employees play an important role in the organization. Employees who report a stressful work environment also report dissatisfaction with their work. Work stress is tension, anxiety, frustration, emotional exhaustion, and suffering. Factors that cause stress in the workplace include poor control of the work environment, uncertainty of responsibilities, conflicts with other people and non-participation in decision-making. Stress is the work-related variables (work stressors) when interpreted by a person (cognitive interpretation) that can cause stress. A regression analysis of the interrelationships of the study variables revealed that a transformative leadership style influences employee engagement, so it is important to strengthen the role of leadership in the organization. The results of the study revealed that transformational leadership styles and transactional leadership styles create stressors (control and support), and they affect employee engagement at work. Stress caused by control and stress caused by lack of support act as mediators between leadership styles (transformational and transactional) and employee engagement.
