This work has the following hypotheses: 1. Lithuanian Catholic media have failed to represent religious subjects in a modern way. 2. The development of Lithuanian Catholic media slowed because of internal and external problems, which they failed to resolve. 3. The growth of Lithuanian Catholic radio and Internet media has strengthened Catholic media situation in Lithuania. This work of master’s degree about Lithuanian catholic media is one of the first in Lithuania. Working methods in a theoretical part of this work are secondary data analysis, induction, comparative, historical, systematic, interview, logical methods. In a practical part of this work there is an interview method. The research interviewed six experts, who monitor the Lithuanian Catholic media and participate in its activities. This work sowed that Lithuanian Catholic media prospered interwar, but the occupation of the Soviet Union stopped its development. When the independence was revived, Lithuanian Catholic media was refreshed, but in the beginning of the twenty-first century it suffered a decline of the closing of Catholic magazines, growing financial problems, declining circulation of catholic press, declining readership interest. The first work hypothesis that the Lithuanian Catholic media have failed to provide a modern religious subjects was confirmed. They didn‘t contract the dialogue with the Lithuanian society, as the most emphasis on the Catholic Church reacted to events, and little of the public concerns. The expert interviews showed many still unresolved internal and external problems in Catholic media, such as professionalism and professional staff shortages, inability to work efficiently, do not come to the dialogue and so forth. It confirmed the second work hypothesis that the development of was stopped because of internal and external problems, which they failed to resolve. Among the other Lithuanian Catholic media the internet newspaper www.bernardinai.lt distinguished for ability to attract different segments of readers, not refrain from dialogue. Therefore, it can be concluded that internet media has strengthened the position of Catholic media in Lithuania. An important event in Lithuania was the first Catholic Media Catholic radio installation. It is important because Lithuania joined the largest international network of Catholic radio world, and had round the clock functioning radio. However, Lithuanian radio Maria is still regarded as a prospect, which has the opportunity to grow. It can be concluded that the third hypothesis of this work that the growth of Lithuanian Catholic radio and Internet media has strengthened Catholic media situation in Lithuania was confirmed. Catholics in Lithuania are able to create the ethical, professional media. For this they must actively address the arising problems, cooperate with each other, establish national networks, keep pace with technological progress, focus more of the professional staff who is able to respond to public concerns and engage in dialogue with the public. |
