The aim of the master thesis was to determine the influence of Industry 4.0 related factors on job security in Lithuania’s biomedicine sector after revealing industry changes associated with the fourth industrial revolution. Research methods used: analysis of scientific literature (reviewed relevant and up-to-date sources of literature regarding Industry 4.0 in biomedicine sector); semi-structured interview with experts in biomedicine (the list of „The Most Important Skills for Tomorrow‘s Biomedicine Sector“ was composed); questionnaire survey method (Lithuania’s biomedicine sector workforce); statistical methods for quantitative data processing using SPSS – descriptive statistics (Industry 4.0 awareness, interest in Industry 4.0, readiness for Industry 4.0, the level of job security and Industry 4.0 relevance for respondents’ workplace were determined); correlation coefficient (relationships among Industry 4.0 related factors and job security were established); linear regression analysis (Industry 4.0 related predictors of job security in Lithuania’s biomedicine sector were identified); two independent samples t test and Mann Whitney U test (differences in Industry 4.0 awareness, interest, readiness and job security level were determined by respondents’ gender and workplace); analysis of variance ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test (differences in Industry 4.0 awareness, interest, readiness and job security level were determined by repondents’ age, education, experience in biomedicine sector, size of workplace and job position). The master thesis consists of three parts: the first part examines the concept of the fourth industrial revolution, the application of Industry 4.0 technologies in biomedicine and the significance of Industry 4.0 for changes in the labor market, the second part describes the author's research methodology, and the third part represents research results, their application and suggestions. The main research results: • Industry 4.0 awareness, interest in Industry 4.0, readiness for Industry 4.0 and job security level are higher than average in Lithuania’s biomedicine sector. • There are statistically significant relationships among Industry 4.0 related factors and job security. • Assessment of available skills and retraining potential predict job security level in Lithuania’s biomedicine sector. |
