Kubiliūtė, Edita Self-representation of Iranian and Saudi Arabian women's rights in English-language media: Analysis of IRNA and Al Arabian news portals: Master's thesis / Edita Kubiliūtė, Student of Contemporary Asian Studies; supervisor Konstantinas Andrijauskas; Vilnius University. The subject of the master's thesis is 107 news agencies of the Islamic Republic and 159 Al Arabiya to allow media articles to represent women's rights in Iran and Saudi Arabia. The aim of the work is to reveal the Iranian and Saudi Arabian news portals "Islamic Republic News Agency" and "Al Arabiya representations in the field of women's rights". Tasks: to review the situation of women's rights in Iran and Saudi Arabia, based on feminist / gender theories, starting with women's rights representation in the mainstream media, analyzing the Islamic Republican News Agency (IRNA) and Al Arabiya news portals and revealing how Iran and Saudi Arabia Preserve Your Rights Criticisms of Iranian and Saudi media outlets are assessed by Iranian and Saudi media outlets on women's rights issues, summarizing their comparisons with the work of other authors, and making recommendations for further research. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis of IRNA and Al Arabiya media outlets and based on theories of Islamic feminism, social constructionism and frames, 266 articles are analyzed. IRNA and Al Arabian women’s rights have been found to be exclusive through religious-cultural discourse. In the case of both IRNA and Al Arabia, the change in women's rights is represented as a positive initiative. The master’s thesis may be useful in examining the representation of women’s rights in the media in the Middle East. |
