Abstract [eng] The subject of this paper is "love jihad" conspiracy theory and its influence on interfaith personal relationships. The aim of the paper is to investigate how conspiracy theory is used to control interreligious personal relationships in the context of hindutva political power in contemporary India. This paper covers the content analysis of two Indian laws – Special Marriage Act (1954) and a recently promulgated "Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance" (2020) for the investigation of interfaith marriage situation in contemporary Indija and a journal of hindutva organisation VHP to analyse the features of "love jihad" conspiracy theory. It was concluded that the spread of the "love jihad" conspiracy theory is becoming the most important modern tool of BJP which deepens the polarisation of Hindus and Muslims at the level of their personal relationships; modify society’s social reality and legitimize majoritarian laws.
