This paper sets out to explore the phenomenon of migration by analysing conceptual metaphors extracted from the Communication that were issued by the Institutions of the European Union. The aim of this research paper is to attempt to reveal how migration is conceptualised by the Institutions of the European Union in general. In order to achieve this objective, a corpus of linguistic data on the topic of migration was compiled from which conceptual metaphors were extracted by applying several methods. Firstly, metaphorical patterns were established using software that analysis linguistic data; secondly, the metaphoricity of utterances was determined by evaluating the meaning of lexical units in the given context. Lastly, a comprehensive analysis of the most prominent metaphors in the corpus was carried out. |
