Abstract [eng] |
An Evaluation of Youth Labour Market Participation and Housing Provision Possibilities In Lithuania, as in most European Union countries, young people still remain one of the most vulnerable groups of society in the labor market. There is also a declining number of homeowners in this age category as part of the overall population of the country. The object of this master's thesis is the participation of young people in the labor market and their possibilities of acquiring housing. The goal of this master's thesis is to assess the opportunities of young people to participate in the labor market and to acquire suitable housing. To achieve the set goal, a two-stage study was conducted: statistical data analysis and a qualitative semi-structured interview. The data of the semi-structured interviews were analyzed via the content analysis method by using the MAXQDA 2018 program. Statistical data analysis was performed using the SPSS Statistics program. Based on statistical analysis and semi-structured interviews, the study identified what opportunities there are for young people to participate in the labor market and to provide themselves with adequate housing, as well as the reasons leading to this. While summarizing the results of the study, it became clear that young people living in rural areas are statistically significantly more likely to evaluate their opportunities to acquire their own housing as unfavorable, compared to young people living in major cities of the country. It was also found that among young people, women were statistically significantly less likely to worry about losing their job than men. The study also found that higher education statistically significantly correlates with home ownership, and that individuals with higher education are more likely to become howe owners. The study also found that young people living with their parents were statistically significantly more likely to rate their ability to acquire their own housing in the future as unfavorable. Analysis of the results revealed that young people living in the regions are more concerned about the possibility of losing their jobs than those living in cities. It has been established that the participation of young people in the labor market and the possibilities of acquiring housing are mostly influenced by ongoing regional policy initiatives, motivation, education, family, and financial situation. The obtained research data can be used to improve social policy mechanisms aimed at the development of youth participation in the labor market and access to housing. |
