The master's thesis contains analysis the influence of biological and social factors on criminal behavior, based on theoretical literature, related scientific articles, expert survey data and other information materials. The aim of the thesis is to reveal the experts' point of view about the influence of the interaction of biological and social factors on criminal behavior and the future development perspectives of criminological access examining this interaction in Lithuania. To achieve this goal, 14 interviews with Lithuanian scientists and practitioners working in law, biology, psychology, and sociology were conducted. The results of the study described in the paper showed that Lithuanian experts recognize the impact of biological and social factors on criminal behavior, however, the approach to which factors are considered decisive is often conditioned by the scientific field in which the expert works. Respondents also believe that capture of biological and social factors in the legal process would enable more individualized sentencing or sanctions and the application of corrective measures to offenders. According to experts, the biosocial criminological perspective has the potential for development in our country. In addition to the analysis of the data obtained during the survey, the paper also includes the results of the analysis of the data of research projects that have received state support during 2010-2020, conducted with the aim to evaluate the areas of projects received funding from the state budget programs, showed that in order to develop the biosocial criminology perspective in Lithuania, it is necessary to promote interdisciplinary collaboration of researchers and their participation in joint projects. |
