Abstract [eng] |
This study examines the role of basic needs satisfaction for the relationships between shared leadership, work engagement and burnout in Agile teams. The study includes 144 respondents, all working in teams following the Agile methodology. Research was done in virtual platform, instruments used: Shared Leadership Questionnaire (SLQ) (Hoch et al, 2010), Work‐related Basic Need Satisfaction scale (Broeck et al, 2010), Ultra-short Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (Schaufeli et al, 2017), Copenhagen Burnout Inventory work-related burnout scale (Kristensen et al, 2005) and questionnaire designed specifically for this study to collect data on Agile teams and demographics. This study reveals that engagement is positively related to shared leadership and basic needs satisfaction and burnout is negatively to shared leadership and basic needs satisfaction. Engagement is predicted by basic needs satisfaction and transformational shared leadership while burnout is predicted by autonomy need satisfaction and team empowering leadership. Competency and autonomy needs satisfaction is predicted only by participative leadership while relatedness is predicted by all shared leadership dimensions except individual empowering leadership. It was found that basic needs satisfaction to be a mediator for the relationships between shared leadership, work engagement and burnout in Agile teams. Therefore, if organizations want their Agile teams to be more engaged and have lower burnout, they should encourage using shared leadership so basic needs could be satisfied. |
