Abstract [eng] This study focused on the relationships between the characteristics of psychoactive substance use and risk perception in young adults. The purpose of this study was to examine whether there is a link between risk perception and psychoactive substance use characteristics. The study draws on data from previous studies that consistently found that perceptions of risk depends on the type of psychoactive substance and the area of risk perception. The study included 218 men and women selected for non-probabilistic random sampling. The instruments used in the study were the ASSIST questionnaire and risk perception scales which were developed according to the different areas where these substances may cause a risk because of use. Comparative, correlative and regression criteria were used for the measurements of the study. This study found that the perception of risk depends on what psychoactive substance is used and in which area of risk is assessed. Characteristics of substance use were negatively related to risk perception. Regression analysis revealed that more frequent use of substances may predict lower risk perception and less frequent use may predict higher risk perception. Perceptions of risk vary depending on how often a person uses these substances so it is important to consider this factor in future studies and prevention programs.
