Abstract [eng] Eating disorders (ED) have been studied for more than a decade, but due to their scale, complexity, and health threats, these disorders are still extremely relevant in the field of mental health. There are various interpretations of the etiology of eating disorders, but this type of disorder is often associated with parental psychological control and maladaptive perfectionism. Therefore, the aim of this study was to elucidate the relationships between perceived parental psychological control, maladaptive perfectionism, and symptoms of eating disorders. The study included 64 women, of whom 27 had confirmed anorexia nervosa (AN), 33 had bulimia nervosa (BN), and 4 had overeating associated with other psychological disturbances (O). The age range of all three groups of eating disorders ranged from 18 to 23 years (AN - M = 20.03, SD = 1.4; BN - M = 20.24, SD = 1.82; O - M = 20.17 , SD = 1.67). Perceived parental psychological control was assessed with Psychological Control Scale-Youth Self-Report (PCS-YSR), perfectionism with Frost Multidimentional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS), and Eating Disorders Symptoms with Eating Disorders Inventory (EDI – 3). The results of the study revealed that strongly perceived maternal psychological control is associated with more pronounced maladaptive perfectionism and more pronounced ED symptoms, as well as more pronounced maladaptive perfectionism is associated with more pronounced ED symptoms and on the contrary – weakly perceived maternal psychological control and weaker pronounced maladaptive perfectionism is associated with less pronounced ED symptoms. The study also confirms that maladaptive perfectionism predicts symptoms of eating disorders and has full and partial mediating properties between perceived maternal psychological control and some symptoms of eating disorders.
