Abstract [eng] |
Currently it is easy to find a lot of research about narcissism, however inaccurate or one-sided conclusions about narcissism might occur. However, self-disgust doesn‘t attract so many scientists attention. Relationships between self-disgust and narcissistic personality traits haven‘t been studied broadly yet. So, existing possibility that self-disgust might enrich the understanding of narcissism makes this research direction especially promising. So, in the present study we try to look more deeply in to this question. 86 participants took part in the conducted research project. There were 43 respondents from age of 19 to 71 in the clinical group of the total sample. They had been treated in the psychiatric daytime center diagnosed with mood and/or anxiety disorders. There were 43 respondents from 19 to 65 years old in the control group of the total sample. Used measures included demographic questions, Pathological Narcissism Inventory short version (Pincus et al. 2009), Self-Disgust Revised Scale (Powell et al., 2015) and One Item Self-Esteem Scale (Robins et al., 2001). Results showed no significant differences between self-disgust comparing clinical and control groups. Results also revealed that physical self-disgust scores of women in the total sample were higher than men. Also, it was found that individuals from clinical group had significantly lower scores of self-esteem than individuals from control group sample and that women from clinical sample had significantly lower scores of self-esteem than women from control sample. Finally, results showed that physical self-disgust and behavioral disgust are significantly related with vulnerable narcisissm. Most of scientific researches find significant relationships between self-esteem and pathological narcissism, however in the current study there were found new significant relationships between physical disgust, behavioral disgust and vulnerable narcissism. Findings supplement with new insights those scientific studies in which narcissistic personality traits are being explored as well as the perception of narcissism. |
