The object of the Mastre‘s degree work – translated classical and contemporary literature published during the period of 2001 – 2005 in Lithuania (classical and contemporary literature dedicated for children and juveniles is not the object of this work). The aim of this work – to analyse the repertoire of translated classical and contemporary literature of the 2001 – 2005 period and determine the main factors, which made the impact for the repertoire formation of the aforementioned literature genre. The goals of the work – to determine the terms of classical and contemporary literature; to analyse what is the share of translated classical and contemporary literature publishing in Lithuanian books market; to analyse which publishers published the biggest share of translated classical and contemporary literature; to analyse the repertoire of classical and contemporary literature and determine the main publishing tendencies and the factors, which made the impact on them; to analyse the series publishing of translated classical and contemporary literature; to analyse and determine the list of the best selling authors and books. After using the special bibliographical research method, having interviews with publishers, which published the biggest share of translated classical and contemporary literature and also analysing additionally gathered information on published translated classical and contemporary literature, it was come to the conclusion, that during the period of 2001 – 2005, there was an increase of publishing volumes of translated classical and contemporary literature and also an increase of its share in total fiction literature market as well as in translated fiction literature market. It was noticed, that during the period of 2001 – 2005, the supply of classical literature made approximately one third of total translated classical and contemporary literature supply in the market. It was also noticed, that almost half of translated classical and contemporary literature was dedicated to books series in order to inform and guide readers in the plenty of books supply. Using bibliographical and typographical research methods, the best selling authors and their books were named together presenting possible reasons for their popularity. Master‘s degree work could be useful for publishers, lecturers of publishing studies and also for students. |
