Abstract [eng] The master thesis “Image of a country and economic emigration: match of conveyance and reality” raises an important issue – press gives a lot of information about emigration, but does this information really reflect reality? The purpose of the paper is to face media information about economic emigration and reality. It is also important to discuss the meaning of country image as it influences trend of economic emigration and about media power influence to public trust. The factors and causes which influence the massive emigration of the Lithuanian are also revealed. The paper includes a survey of migration processes until 1990 concentrating on the changes in migration forms and flows that occurred after 1990 when the legislative restrictions on emigration from Lithuania were eliminated. The raised issue is approached by analyzing social, psychological and other scientific literature as well as various contemporary periodicals. Statistical analysis of the data about the official and undeclared cases of emigration from the state enables to take a closer look at the migration flows from 1990 until 2006. The research paper consists of theoretical and practical parts. The first section of the theoretical part introduces conception of image and country image. There is explained the meaning of country image to public in every day life also. Opinion of public is very influenced by media. It mostly forms image of the country by itself. The second section of the theoretical part introduces the concept of migration and analyses the historical development of migration processes in Lithuania and in the world in general. Moreover, the second section includes the classification of migration forms, the overview of migration theories and the analysis of the beneficial and negative impact of emigration on the emigrant and the state. The practical part consists of the analysis of reports of media about economic emigration in Great Britain and the semi structural interviews that were conducted in order to examine more deeply reality of life in emigration in London. 30 interviews were obtained: 25 interviews with economical emigrants and 5 with experts. The research showed that media do not inform about all aspects of life in emigration. Hypothesis that information of media reflects reality, but it does not show important tendencies was proved.
