Abstract [eng] Coping strategies, subjective fatigue and psychological well-being among pilots. Marijus Mitrauskas. Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2020, 67 pages. Subjective fatigue of the pilots is a significant and widely studied factor of aviation safety. The aim of the present study was to analyse the relationship between subjective fatigue, coping strategies, and psychological well–being among pilots. 43 subjects took part in the study: 27 (63%) were pilots and 16 (37%) were trainees. The following assessment tools were used in the study: Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MF – 20; Smets et al., 1995), Brief COPE (Carver, 1997), Mental Health Continuum (MHC – SF, Keyes, 2009), Big Five Inventory - 10 (BFI – 10, Rammstedt & Oliver, 2007), indicators of subjective distress and physical health, as well as the questionnaire of sociodemographic data. A hierarchical linear regression method was used to determine the prognostic relationships between variables. The results of the study suggest that more subjective fatigue experienced by pilots is related to lower levels of their psychological well-being. The overall level of subjective fatigue contributes significantly to the explanation of the overall level of psychological well-being, even when the individual characteristics of the pilots are taken into account. Moreover, after controlling for pilot’s individual characteristics, the level of stress, subjective health and employed coping strategies predict the level of fatigue among pilots.
