Abstract [eng] The role of job characteristics and job performance in the relationship between transformational leadership and employee innovative behavior The Role of Job Characteristics and Job Performance in the Relationship Between Transformational Leadership and Employee Innovative Behavior, Martyna Grašytė, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2020, 63 pages The aim of this thesis was to examine the assumptions of employees' innovative behavior and the significance of work characteristics and work performance for the relationship between transformational leadership and innovative behavior. The literature review shows that transformational leadership can encourage innovative behaviour of employees, and job characteristics and in role job performance can act as mediators for the relationship between transformational leadership and employee innovative behaviour. This Master’s Thesis uses data from a study that was conducted in 2016. The data was collected when implementing a cooperation agreement No. BS – 250000 – 1963/BSR – 28 between State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS) and Vilnius University. In this thesis a limited number of the indicators from the above mentioned study are analysed, and the gross sample, composed of more than 500 employees from various SFVS units, was reduced to 354 employees who worked only in the territorial Food and Veterinary Offices (52 territorial units). The study involved 2 to 24 participants from each territorial unit. The results of the study showed that transformational leadership and innovative behaviour have a relationship with almost all the job characteristics and in role job performance. In role job performance, cognitive job requirements, self-improvement opportunities and co-workers’ support impact innovative behaviour. Transformational leadership impacts innovative behaviour when in role job performance, cognitive job requirements, self-improvement opportunities and co-workers’ support are not introduced, which indicates that those four constructs act as mediators in the relationship between innovative behaviour and transformational leadership. Keywords: job characteristics, in role performance, innovative behaviour, transformational leadership.
