Abstract [eng] Budreckytė, R. (2020). Associations between Stressful Experiences, Adjustment disorder and Somatic Complaints in Adolescence. Master’s thesis. Vilnius: Vilnius University, p. 45. Adolescence is a sensitive period during which youth have to adapt not only the physical changes caused by maturation, but also the emerging social challenges in different areas of life. When stressful experiences strongly disrupts the individual‘s functionality, adjustment disorder might be diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Stressful experiences can cause the early onset of psychopathology as well as unpleasant somatic sensations. This study is one of the few to analyze links between stressful experiences, adjustment disorder and somatic complains among adolescents. In total 302 adolescents from schools of different Lithuanian regions participated in this study. Pupils aged between 11 and 15 (M = 13.27; SD = 0.95), gender distribution was equal. This study used a demographic questionnaire; Adjustment Disorder New Module Questionnaire (ADNM-8); The Children’s Somatic Symptoms Inventory (CSSI-8). Results showed that the majority of adolescents experienced at least one stressor (83.8%) over the last year. Statistically significant associations between adolescent stressful experiences, adjustment disorder and somatic complaints were found in this study.
