Abstract [eng] The Association between Psychologists‘ Attitudes towards Real-Time Video Counseling and Perceived Therapeutic Relationship. Ieva Marija Jovarauskaitė, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2020 m., 77 p. Good therapeutic relationship has been proved to be one of the core aspects of successful therapy delivered either face to face or online. The findings of some research suggest that psychologists may hold negative attitudes towards therapeutic relationship developed online. Since the link between psychologists‘ attitudes towards real-time video counseling and perceived therapeutic relationship is not clear, this paper aims to investigate it. A total of 109 psychologists consulting adults on mental health issues (96 women and 13 men aged between 24 to 60 years old) participated in the research. They completed an online survey which was shared through social networks and via email. The attitudes towards real-time video counseling questionnaire was developed to assess psychologists’ attitudes, short revised form of Working Alliance Inventory therapist version (WAI-SR-T, (Hatcher et al., 2019) was used to assess therapeutic relationship, and questionnaire developed for this study were used to obtain information about participants‘ professional, remote counceling experience and demographic factors. A correlational analysis was performed. The results indicated that perceived therapeutic relationship mostly correlated with beliefs about the possibilities of fluent video counseling. The score of perceived therapeutic relationship could be predicted by perceived knowledge required for video counseling and beliefs about the possibilities to ensure confidentiality. This study highlights the importance of psychologists’ knowledge of remote counseling and confidentiality for therapeutic processes.
