Abstract [eng] The relations between crying in psychotherapy, therapeutic alliance and mood after crying in depressed clients. This study examined how crying in psychotherapy and mood after crying in depressed clients were related to each other and to severity of depressive symptoms, therapeutic alliance, age, gender and duration of therapy attendance; it was also examined whether these variables predict mood after crying in therapy. 120 depressed clients (34 males and 86 females) participated in the study: 77 of them - crying in therapy, 43 – non-crying in therapy. Participants completed the Crying in Therapy Survey, Beck Depression Inventory-II and Working Alliance Inventory–Short Form. The results of this study have shown that the crying tendency is higher in daily life than in therapy, whereas mood after crying in therapy and in daily life do not differ. Crying in therapy sample demonstrated higher crying in daily life characteristics and therapeutic alliance than non-crying in therapy sample; they were also older and attending the therapy for a longer time, and there were a larger percent of females than males amnog them. Crying and non-crying in therapy samples did not differ by a mood after crying in daily life and severity of depressive symptoms. In crying in therapy sample crying in therapy characteristics were positively related to crying in daily life characteristics and not related to severity of depressive symptoms, therapeutic alliance and age; among crying in therapy characteristics only the crying frequency was related (negatively) to duration of therapy attendance. Mood after crying in therapy was positively related to mood after crying in daily life and therapeutic alliance, negatively – to severity of depressive symptoms, and was not related to age and duration of therapy attendance. Crying in therapy characteristics and mood after crying in therapy were not related. Females demonstrated higher crying in therapy tendency than males but these two groups did not differ by the crying frequency and mood after crying in therapy. Results have also shown that the mood after crying in therapy is predicted by the mood after crying in daily life and therapeutic alliance.
