Abstract [eng] SUITABILITY OF THE EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR QUALITY MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE MODEL FOR A START-UP BUSINESS Gintarė GYLYTĖ Vilnius University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Management Department Supervisor – asist. D.Ruželė Vilnius, 2020 66 pages, 23 tables, 12 pictures, 61 references, 3 appendices. 21st century consumers are accustomed to the highest quality products and services. As a result, most public and private sector organizations strive to implement quality management systems to meet the expectations of their clients to achieve the best financial and economic performance (Rio-Rama et al., 2017). It is argued that the principles of EFQM Excellence Model for Organizational Improvement and Quality System Development should apply to any business model (Boulter et al., 2013); Orientation to the core, but not all, criteria of a model of excellence at once could be the basis for developing quality management and growth for young startups. However, the scientific literature and sources failed to find practical examples of the application of this model in startups. The problem of research is the under-researched application of the EFQF excellence model for performance improvement or quality management system development in startups. The aim of the master’s thesis – After conducting employee interviews and management discussions and examining the EFQM excellence model and start-up business, evaluate the suitability of this model for start-ups. The objectives that have been set and implemented to achieve the aim: 1. After analyzing scientific literature, to analyze the model of EFQM excellence model and start-up business model. 2. After analyzing the principles of the perfection model and the business model of start-ups, to develop the methodology of the quantitative research “Evaluation of the importance and impact of the evaluation criteria of the EFQM excellence model for start-ups”. 3. After the analysis of the principles of the perfection model and the business model of the start-ups, to develop the methodology of the qualitative research “Benefits of the EFQM excellence model criteria for the start-up activities”. 4. After performing the author's empirical research, to evaluate the importance and impact of the EFQM excellence model criteria on start-ups, as well as the benefits to start-up activities. 5. Prepare a comparison and interpretation of the data based on the obtained research data. 6. Based on the comparison and interpretation of data, to determine the suitability of the EFQM excellence model for startups. The work consists of five main parts. The first part is devoted to the analysis of scientific literature on the EFQM excellence model, as well as the second part is devoted to the scientific literature on start-up business type. The third part covers the methodology of the quantitative research “Evaluation of the importance and impact of EFQM excellence model evaluation criteria on start-ups”. The fourth part presents the methodology of qualitative research "Benefits of the EFQM excellence model criteria for start-ups". The fifth part is dedicated to the comparison and interpretation of empirical research results. The object of the research – suitability of the EFQM excellence model for start-ups. Limits of research – only members of the Lithuanian startup community are considered. Research methods: 1. Systematic method of literature analysis – for evaluation of EFQM excellence model and start-up business model; 2. The method of anonymous questionnaire survey – opinions about the importance and influence of the evaluation criteria of the EFQM excellence model; 3. Semi-structured interview method - gathering data on the benefits EFQM excellence model assessment criteria for start-ups; 4. Methods of comparison and interpretation of research results - for synthesis of results and determination of suitability of EFQM excellence model for start-ups.
