Internal and external factors of children addicted to video games. Eimantas Pranauskas, Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, Vilnius, 2020, p 56. The study investigates children's addiction to video games. The aim of the study was to identify and evaluate dependencies between addiction to video games and child's behaviour, emotional issues, and father's and mother's control. The study involved 211 respondents, randomly selected from 3 Vilnius city schools, of whom 112 were boys (53%) and 99 girls (47%). The age of the respondents ranged from 11 to 14 years (M = 11.55, SD = 0.92). Children provided answers to sociodemographic data, answered questions from the School Age ASEBA YSR 11 / 18, Parental Control Scale (PCS), and Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD-20) questionnaires. The results shown that with increasing boys' aggressive behaviour and decreasing positive traits, addiction to video games increases. A sample of girls was found to be more addicted to video games with increasing difficulty in thinking, increased breaking of rules, and decline in positive traits. The results of the study contribute to the development of preventive video game addiction programs, increase public awareness of the problem, and help parents understand what to consider in order to reduce the risk of children's video game addiction. |
