Antanas Vaičiulaitis (1906 – 1992) – is one of the most famous Lithuanian writers, literary critic, translator, editor who worked and created during Independence Time. In the 4th decade of the 20th century Antanas Vaičiulaitis joined the ranks of Lithuanian writers as prosaist, whose works are analysed in this work. The writer, who nowadays is called the representative of the „magic realism” created a tranquil story believing that the bond between the man and nature creates harmony in the world. Deep eduction into the human’s inner, his reverie, his poetic expression of Nature’s beauty, the lightness of the plot and naturalism – these are the basic aspects of the writer’s prose. The object of the work is the theme of love in Vaičiulaitis novel „Valentina” and in his earlier prose. The theme of love is chosen because love is the only definite answer to the problem of human’s existence. The main reason of fiction, art, religion and philosophy is to awake human’s ability to love and especially in the heart of another person. The purpose of the work is to define properly love in religious, philosophical and psychological aspects in Vaičiulaiti’s novel „Valentina” and another novels „Šiaurietė” and „Pažaislio vienuolyno legenda”. The task of the work is to discuss love conception in philosophy and religion, to show the history of the characters love which is determined to survive through the trials, real events, to discuss the meaning of signs of love which creates the correspondent scenes, motives, episodes. In all three analysed works the theme of love for a woman, love for one’s neighbour, love for God. The novel „Valentina” was written in 1936. It is the novel about love of the two people which has a tragic end. The human’s weakness, helplessness against the destiny is shown in the novel „Šiaurietė”. The main theme of „Pažaislio vienuolyno legenda“ – love for one‘s nearest and dearest and love for God. |
