Abstract [eng] Change of Suicide Intervention Skills in Practise and Training: Experience of Youth Line Kasparas Astrauskas Vilnius University Vilnius, 2019, 59 p. Due to the widespread occurrence of suicide, it is important to assess care provider’s suicide intervention skills. Although Youth Line volunteers are constantly confronted with suicidal clients, it is not clear how volunteering practise affects suicide intervention skills. Youth Line has gained considerable experience in the field of suicide intervention and organized Speak project‘s training program for suicide intervention based on this experience. However, it is not clear how this training program affects trainees suicide intervention skills. The first study aimed to evaluate change in Youth Line volunteers suicide intervention skills during practise, 27 volunteers participated in the study (85,2 percent woman, mean age 25,2 years). The second study aimed to evaluate change in suicide intervention skills of Speak trainees, all trainees participated in the study: 439 teachers and social workers. Suicide Intervention Response Inventory – Revised (SIRI-2) (Neimeyer & Bonnelle, 1997; Astrauskas, Skruibis ir Kaušakytė, 2016 (lithuanian version)) was used in both studies. Analysis of the results revealed that volunteering practise improve suicide intervention skills and volunteers with on year experience can provide quality suicide intervention. It is also found that Speak training program is fairly effective and improves trainees suicide intervention skills.
