The Role of Social Support and Employee Recognition in the Context of Workaholism and Burnout: a Survey of a Human Resources Specialists Sample SUMMARY The Role of Social Support and Employee Recognition in the Context of Workaholism and Burnout: a Survey of a Human Resources Specialists Sample. Modesta Brukstaite, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2019, 75 pages. Literature lack information about relation between social support, employee recognition, workaholism and exhaustion. Therefore this research was aimed to determine the importance of different types of social support and employee recognition for the relationship between workaholism and exhaustion. 22-58 years old 177 Human Resources Specialists (159 women, 18 men) with 1-27 years of experience in this field were surveyed online using Multidimensional Scale Of Perceived Social Support (received out of work), Social Support (received at work) Scale taken from The Job Demands–Resources Questionnaire, Employee Recognition Scale, Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS) and Exhaustion Scale taken from Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI). Survey results showed that manager’s social support and employee recognition moderates the relationship between workaholism and exhaustion. Employees who receive more social support both at work and out of work are more recognized at work. Keywords: social support, employee recognition, workaholism, burnout, exhaustion. |
