Despite the emphasized relevance and increasing problematic nature of the fast fashion industry, there is a limited amount of research on how fashion organizations communicate sustainability and social responsibility to the public. Therefore, this article aims to present the features of communication about corporate social responsibility and sustainability on online store websites of fast fashion organizations, the terms used, and the boundaries of responsible actions drawn in the communication. The article is based on a study conducted in 2021. It has revealed that the most common concept employed in communication of the examined fast fashion organizations is sustainability, though they often use their own terms and labels to refer to sustainability and social responsibility activities and, in this way, may complicate consumers’ understanding of sustainability and social responsibility. The study results also show that the information provided by fast fashion organizations is highly inconsistent, varying in detail, comprehensiveness, and position on websites. The organizations prioritize visual appeal over clarity in presenting information, making it difficult for consumers to understand their sustainability and social responsibility commitments and activities. |
