Abstract [eng] Master’s dissertation Silent Nostalgia consists of two parts: a theoretical description and textile composition. The main concept of the work is a contradiction between the old and nowadays burying and paying homage to the dead traditions. The traditions of burying and paying homage to the dead from ancient Balts to modern ones in Lithuania are analyzed in the theoretical part. Lithuanians in the past considered death and the life beyond with a high respect and fearlessly. The ceremonies were performed purposefully, understanding the deep meaning of traditions. In the course of time some traditions have been lost (some even have specially been annihilated) from the nation’s memory. Nowadays the observation of these traditions is often artificial having no deeper meaning. Even All Saints’ evening turns to a noisy Halloween’s Carnival. According to Druids, Celts’ traditions souls are scared away in the evening of Halloween. On the contrary, Balts invited souls home. The sense of souls’ life has especially been changed by cinematography. How the theme of death, sadness, longing is interpreted by different kinds of artists is analyzed in this work. It has turned out that this topic is not frequently touched in their creation. A majority of works associated with the beyond could have been found in the works done by M. K. Čiurlionis. Artists both professionals and folk try to show the images the beyond as they understand themselves. Every author expresses his understanding about the beyond very differently but all of them have a great wish to learn, comprehend and find the real original truth, to realize man’s going the beyond essence, to pay attention to man’s behavior at this crucial moment. The analysis of the theory and research of ancient Balts religions carried out by S. Daukantas, M. Gimbutienė, P. Dundulienė, P. Galaunė has dictated the topic for the work Silent Nostalgia. The creative work Silent Nostalgia has been done using the synthesis of textile technology, also applying not typical technologines to textile (carbon paper, decoration using sand) choosing materials suitable for disclosing the topic. Therefore new technologies have been tried which I have never tried before . The creation of a big size (234x 432 cm) textile art work has been realized. The creative part of the work has been made with a view to show the real silent nostalgia, the beauty of calmness, the great ancient burying and the relation with the people the beyond silently, only trying to listen, to stay close to them.
