Abstract [eng] Background: eating disorders are one of the most common problems that occur in young age and persist throughout life. It imposes a significant burden on both the psychological and physical wellbeing. Alongside eating disorders, co-ocurring psychiatric disorders often develop, including depression, anxiety. It also affects the physical well-being of individuals. Eating disorders also have an impact on fertility and of course pregnancy. Aim: to analyze the literature about main eating disorders effect on mental and physical health. Methodology: the search of the literature was conducted in PubMed and ClinicalKey. Publications were selected based on the following keywords: „eating disorders“, „psichophatology“, „somatic comorbidity“, „fertility“, „pregnancy“. More than 1000 publications in English and German languages were found. After reviewing the titles, 67 publications were selected. Publications that did not fit the purpose of the article were rejected. In the end it was chosen and rewieved 39 publications. Results: comorbidity between eating disorders and other psichiatric and physical diseases is widely discussed in the scientific literature. It has been noticed that eating disorders are associated with higher risk of addiction, suicidal tendencies. Furthermore, these disorders have significant impact on individual physical health. Eating disorders weaken the immune system and affect hormonal imbalances. Conclusions: it is important to distinguish eating disorders not only for the relevant specialist but also for all other healthcare professionals. The earlier attention is drawn, the better help can be provided.
