Abstract [eng] Background. Public aging ir one of the most important problem in XXI century. It is prognosticating, that birthrate in Europe will be increasing until 2050 marginally, the avarage life-expecting resistence will be increasing. So the number of elderly people will be definately increasing. Depreservation of health of elderly people and the support of their functional independency is regarded as one of the most important goal for the whole European region. The tendency of population aging is observed also in Lithuania. This is why is so important to secure the quality of life of retired people. It is writting in the literature, that quality of life is influenced by many factors. However main of them are health and economic wellbeing. Objective. To investigate the quality of life of elderly people in Vilnius city. Goals: 1. To investigate the quality of life of retired people. 2. To identify which factors influence the quality of life of retired people. Methods. The investigation was done in Vilnius city. Quality of life was investigated by adopted WHOQOL-100 questionnaire. There were 406 retired people investigated. The subjects were included in to the investigation randomly. The statistical calculations were performed by using MS Office EXCEL and SPSS programs. Results. Quality of life was better of healthy people, compared to sick people (p=0,000). Those, who were married, had better quality of life compared to singles (p=0,012). Working retired people had better quality of life indices comapring to non-working retired people (p=0,028). Education status did not significantly influence quality of life, but in the group with higher education greater spirituality was observed (p=0,000). We did not find any significant diferences between males and females. Conclusion. The results of current investigation show that marriage status, working during retirement and active social life are very important factors for the good quality of life.
