Abstract [eng] The Compound Complex Sentences in J. Avyzius’ Fiction Summary The object of the present thesis is compound complex sentences in Jonas Avyzius’ fiction. 875 sentences have been found and used as the object of the study. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the relationship and meanings between the components of compound complex sentences. The methods of the analysis are diachronic descriptive and quantitative analytical. Compound complex sentences are rather miscellaneous according to the components they are made of. Some of the components correspond to simple sentences while others match up to compound simple or complex sentences. According to the relationship between the components and the conjunctions that join them, the types of joining sentences together are as follows: a) copulative b) comparative and contrastive c) disjunctive and d) corroborative. Compound complex sentences of various meanings are used in Avyzius’ fiction. The meanings depend on the type of coordination and the semantics of junctions and the components of sentences. The sentences of incongruity as well as of comparative and contrastive meanings are dominating, while the sentences of enumeration, attribute and condition are found the least. Another object of the present analysis is syntactic synonyms which are the sentences having the same grammatical meaning, different grammatical aspect and which are interchangeable. The following sentences are connected synonymically: a) syndetic and asyndetic sentences b) coordinate ant subordinate sentences.
