Abstract [eng] Today‘s society more often faces to technological innovation. Once technological miracles, as the radio, TV, computer, became a reality. Modern technologies surpass society‘s expectations. The society little by little enters the new digital era. The information and knowledge of these days reach the people momentarily. The traditional media‘s step to the digital era opened the new gates to sudden new information transmission, virtual communication, closer connection with all the world. In Lithuania it is more interested in the digital technologies, their transferred textual, audio and video information. The journalism of the digital era is the actual, new and little analyzed subject in Lithuania. It shows a very poor list of Lithuanian literature about the digital media. By doing first steps in the digital era we must familiarize more widely with it not only the digital era‘s users, but also those who hardly understand what it is. Familiarization with the medium of the digital era would increase the number of users and let for a big part of society to use these era‘s advantages. The aim of the master‘s study is to analyze the peculiarities of digital era‘s medium, practical benefit and perspectives. In order to implement the aim of the study the following goals have been projected: • to present and analyze the conception of internet; • to present and analyze the conception of the digital audio and video; • to present and analyze the conception of the radio and TV in the digital era; • to overlook the alternation of use of the digital technologies; • to reveal the conception of online journalism; • to accentuate and analyze the features of online journalism; • to present scientist‘s future prognoses for technological evolution, traditional and digital journalism; • to perform the analyses of the function of information portals. In order to achieve these goals scientific literature has been analyzed and research „The function of information portals “ has been carried out. The aim of the research is to analyze benefit and perspectives of the information portal as the one of online journalism media. The goals of research are: • to find out the opinion of media representatives about the future of traditional journalism; • to find out what the media men think about the journalism of digital era and its perspectives; • to find out which advantages and disadvantages of online media media representatives envisage; • to find out to what audience and its needs it is oriented while creating the information portal; • to find out how the chosen media representatives assess the online journalism; • to find out media men opinion about the future of technological achievements; • to compare the information gathered by interview method with the theory reported in this study. The method of the research is a quantitative analysis. The source of information is the interview. The object of the research is the Lithuanian media representatives. The results of the research have shown that the media representatives in Lithuania pessimistically assess the survival of traditional newspapers. They believe that the newspapers disappear in the future. Overall, the media representatives don’t doubt that traditional journalism will survive due to habit and ritual. All participants of the research state that the interest of digital journalism will increase and it will improve by itself. Speed of information, interactivity, multimedia are the main advantages of digital journalism which were mentioned by the media representatives. All the media men think that the main disadvantage of online journalism is access. Summing up the data of the research, conclusion comes that digital journalism is not for only for young generation, but also older generation. It has also became evident that media representatives assess the content of the information source but not the form most.
