The summarised data on annual condition evaluations, peculiarities of seasonal development and possible classification of the cultivated rhododendrons into phenorythmotype groups of rhododendrons form the collection of the SU Botanical Garden have been presented. Taking into consideration very large taxonomic abundance and variety of features, rhododendrons in the collections of botanical gardens might be very successfully grouped by some kind of phenorythmotype indicators. Data on the condition of rhododendrons in the collection collected according to the provided scales during the visual evaluation enables one to forecast rather objectively the possibilities of cultivating these plants introduced in green plantations. Special tables designed for the description of rhododendron taxa and cultivars at the SU Botanical Garden and methodologies of generative propagation of rhododendrons covering the germination of rhododendron seeds and proper selection of substrate for the development of seedlings have been provided. The investigations will continue in this way in the future, since the popularity of rhododendrons among professional and amateur gardeners due to their incredible variety and exceptional ornamentality is constantly increasing. |
