THE EFFECT OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY ON PREGNANT WOMEN'S HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE Master,s degree final scientific research paper Author of the paper: Ieva Kindurytė, student of Master program of Nursing at Vilnius University Academic Supervisor: prof. To analyze health-related quality of life of normal Body Mass Index (BMI), overweight and obese pregnant women. To evaluate: a) health-related quality of life of pregnant women belonging to different BMI groups; b) restrictions on daily activities of pregnant women; c) relationship between perceptible pain and its intensity and BMI of pregnant women; d) the effect of BMI physical health of pregnant women. 2. To analyze and compare nutritional habits of normal BMI, overweight and obese pregnant women. To determine the effect of nutritional habits of pregnant women on overweight and obesity, quality of life, interest in and satisfaction with their body weight. To evaluate the attitude of normal BMI, overweight and obese pregnant women on their nutritional habits. 3. To evaluate and compare emotional state of normal BMI, overweight and obese pregnant women. To analyze the relationship between depressive and emotional state and BMI of pregnant women. To determine which BMI groups are more prone to anxiety and depressive state. Materials and Methods of the research: The research was conducted in the Department of Nursing and Fundamentals of Internal Medicine of Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University and in the Centre of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos during the years of 2014-2016. While conducting the survey 193 patients were interviewed, 41 birth history and 152 cards of pregnant women were analyzed. The survey included four different questionnaires: 1) a questionnaire prepared by the authors which consisted of questions regarding nutritional habits during pregnancy, attitude towards the body weight and nutrition of the respondents; 2) HAD scale was used to estimate anxiety and depression; 3) Reederstress rating scale was used to assess the stresses experienced; 4) SF-36 questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by using a statistical software SPSS 22.0 and Microsoft Office Excel 2010. Results and conclusions of the paper: 1. BMI is an important factor, affecting health-related quality of life of pregnant women: a) respondents having normal BMI evaluated their health-related quality of life with rating s "excellent" and "very good". It was determined that pregnant women that had a normal BMI, feel the fullness of life more often. Pregnant women that had a normal BMI, while estimating their health alterations, gave better ratings, compared to overweight and obese respondents; b) it was determined that restrictions on daily activities directly depend on BMI. The health state of pregnant women that had a normal BMI had absolutely no restrictions on easy and moderate activities; c) a statistically significant difference was determined between feel of pain by BMI and BMI's effect on usual work (p<0,05); d) a statistically significant difference was determined among BMI groups by BMI effect on physical health of pregnant women (p<0,05). 2. A statistically significant difference was determined among BMI groups by effect of nutritional habits on overweight and obesity, quality of life, between interest in healthy nutrition and own body weight and attitude on their own nutritional habits. 3. A statistically significant difference was determined among BMI groups by emotional states (p<0,05). Pregnant women that had a normal BMI, we're feeling better, less often had anxiety and depressive state, comparing to overweight and obese respondents. |
