Abstract [eng] |
The analysis of the 5th form students' test results in natural science education suggests that the achievements of the 5th form students, who took part in the survey, are pretty high. On the average, students obtained more than the medium possible test score. According to the student gender, the difference in the natural science test results is not radical: the achievements in both gender groups are very similar. Student performance analysis according to the groups of ability indicates that the better results were obtained during the assignments, requiring the capacity in reading and finding information, text comprehension in the subject (i.e. natural science) and applying knowledge to a particular context. Children had more difficulties with assignments, which required demonstrating skills in experimentation, observation, conclusion making and data presentation. The majority of students have evaluated their abilities in natural science with confidence. In comparison to their classmates' achievements, the majority of respondents consider their own performance as "good", about one fifth of students as "very good", and one fifth accordingly as "satisfactory" (this evaluation is directly linked with the test results). Students' answer analysis has shown that computer takes a very important part in student lives. According to their viewpoint evaluation, it can be stated, that computer is not only considered as a playing device, but also a means of learning. The majority of children estimate their computer skills as pretty good. Two thirds of students affirm that they possess a computer at home and spend on the average 1-2 hours per day on computer. The study has established a positive link between the ability to work with computer and the achievement in natural science. Apart from the new technologies, other home resources, such as books, magazines, encyclopedias have also a positive influence to the student performance. |
