This master work is a research work about the main principles of the contemporary book layout and it’s reflections in Lithuania. The main idea of this work was: - to explore the main principles of the book design and layout find the contemporary book layout cases in Lithuania. The task was: - to analyze the main principles of the book layout construction and to review the most exceptional and original the contemporary book design and layout works; - to explore an impact of type, grid and image in the book layout; - to analyze the book layout principles in Lithuanian practice. In this research work was applied the method of analysis to explore the contemporary book layout principles, which are type, structural and abstract grid and images joined together. The main theoretical material was Fawcett-Tang new book design tendencies, Brody Neuenschwander found letterform aspects, Timothy Samara grid analysis, James Bettley book reviews and other contemporary book design works from British Design Museum and other editions. In research of Lithuanian contemporary book design helped Lithuanian Cultural Ministry’s arranged book art contest granted book works, it was a good material to analyze best Lithuanian book art cases, and to find how are the main layout principles applied in these works. Analysis helped to reveal original letterform interpretations in Jokūbas Jacovskis book cover letter compositions, in conceptual The Contemporay Art Center catalogs, calligraphical letter interpretations in poetry and original and authentically look to autobiography works. The Lithuanian book layout analysis helped to find dominant of traditional and conservative approach to book layout. It is viewable in different genres of books, that structural manuscript grid is dominant in the book layout. Some art books, exhibitions catalogs and annual publications have interpretations of manuscript and column grid interpretations, some modular grid is applied to encyclopedia, manual or periodical publications. Speaking about abstract book layout or grid deconstruction it is hard to find it’s interpratations in Lithuanian books, even children books has dominance of manuscript grid. Abstract or grid deconstruction in book layout is found in exhibition catalogs and other publications in advertising. |
