Abstract [eng] This master’s thesis is relevant due to a negative tendency in translation practice to ignore the specific characteristics of semantics, grammar, and stylistics of Lithuanian language, to break the natural flow of Lithuanian language by using wrong phrases. The Lithuanian translation of the book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ is analysed in this master’s thesis in order to explore the features and quality of this translation. The object of the study is the translation of J. K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ from English into Lithuanian. The aim of this research is to analyse the language and stylistics of the translation. The following objectives are set in order to achieve the aim: 1) to assort all the mistakes into certain categories: vocabulary, morphology, and syntax mistakes, and to analyse them. 2) to evaluate the style of the translation. The analytical-descriptive method is applied in the study. About 200 wrong phrases are quoted in this master’s thesis. All the mistakes fall into the following types: vocabulary, word building, morphology, and syntax mistakes. The style of the translation and quoted sentences are explored in a separate chapter. According to the analysis of the translation of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, several mistakes related to language usage were found. Despite that fact, the general translation is quite good. Concerning the style of translation, it should be noted that there are some inconsequent or abnormally long sentences.
