Abstract [eng] The changes of the structure of population and economic activities in the Plunge and Skuodas districts have been investigated in the current master thesis. Aim of the research – to reveal the vision of the modern countryside considering the changeable role in the knowledge of society and increasing global influence. Methods of investigation: an analysis, systematization and generalization of the theoretical sources. Abstracting the common knowledge of the newest scientific publications and general methods of the scientific investigation of specific literature such as logical analysis, synthesis of scientific literature, graphic depiction; documents (statistic data, media reports of the municipalities and the activities of countryside societies etc.) analysis; questionnaire examination of the rural population and 10-12 formers; mathematical and graphical generalization of collected data; The investigation of changes of the structure of population and economic activities in the Plunge and Skuodas districts and interview. The changes of the structure of population and economic activities in the Plunge and Skuodas districts were investigated in 2010-2011. Economical, social and cultural possibilities (changes of rural development paradigms and politics likewise its evolution and implementation) of development of the non urbanized areas are discussed in the master thesis. The problems of traditional and modern rural functions compatibility and opportunities in Lithuania discussing residential, economical diversification, relaxation and rehabilitation, cognitive and training, ethnographic and ethnical heritage preservation and the functions of landscape nurturance are analyzed in thesis paper. The data analysis of the poll of rural inhabitants of Skuodas and Plunge districts and 10-12 formers, the opinions of experts, conclusions and their solutions are presented in the practical part of thesis. The investigation revealed opinion of youth and rural inhabitants about possibilities and problems of development of rural areas, demographic and economic changes. The next problems were raised: the youth has no prospect for staying in the countryside, the working places in agriculture are decreasing during restructurisation, the alternative activities are not developed, structural unemployment is dominating, the incomes of rural inhabitants are insufficient, the vocational and management training do not respond to demands of labor market, inhabitants are getting older rapidly. The infrastructure is bad developed and is a main obstacle for rural development. The social and economical distinction between city and rural vicinities is deep. An emphasis on new functions for non-urbanized areas opens new rural development possibilities for the development of homogenous vital area.
