Abstract [eng] Resting upon criminal victimology trend and experience of foreign countries, the object of this study is methodics of victim – crime victims’ criminal victimization – surveys: research method, its problems and benefits, practical problems and controlling for errors, classification of victim surveys. The study also provides the brief look upon sources, prerequisites and development of such sociological-criminological reserch in the origin countries and in Lithuania during the last decade. International crime victim surveys carried out by Institute of Law in 1997-2006 and national crime victim surveys carried out by Centre for Crime Prevention in 2004-2006 in Lithuania served as basis for level and organization of population victimization in the sense of property and person crimes, latent crime distribution and structure, re-victimization analysis. The study evaluates the approach of society to the prevention performance of specialized services helping crime victims and neutralizing social consequences of crime, sense of security and fear of crime, public social and legal support for crime victims. To specify principal victimization characteristics of residents, loss suffered, police contact and activity experience and specific situations for committing crimes in Kaunas, the author evaluated the data from self carried out a victim survey in Kaunas and national crime victim survey in year of 2007. Victim surveys practical application possibilities and difficulties for fulfilling the primary victimological prevention and decreasing the outcome of criminal victimization is sense of security loss and unfounded fear of crime. Today crime surveys participate only in researches conducted by criminologists – therefore it is essential to realize that such surveys are to be made annually and introduced to the society for the better view on the real victimological situation in Lithuania.
