Print run dynamics in Lithuanian publishing industry in 1990–2008 (summary) The declaration of Lithuanian independence in 1990’s brought many changes not only to political, economical but also to cultural sphere. New state policy began to form – this had great influence to the newly born book culture in Lithuania. For the last decade of soviet regime there could be seen some minor cultural changes, but the real peak was reached only during the first independent years. These changes became very important not only for lithuanian society but also for the book publishing industry in Lithuania. The censorship was calceled and the publishing houses started printing as many books as it was possible to sell. Print runs for such a small country as Lithuania became extremely large and reached hundreds of thousands each year. In a couple of years publishing buisiness became one of the most profitable buisinesses in the country. But this situation was not ment to hold on long enough. In 1993 print runs started to decrease and this tendency lasts until today. The main question of this masters degree paper work is what are the ultimate reasons for this kind of print run dynamics. The research that has been made answers many unsolved questions. |
