Abstract [eng] The household understood as both a space – the house – and its residents, is an extremely important issue revealing in multiple aspects the significance of the basic unit of society as well as the basic economic unit. The goal of the dissertation is to explore the structure and development of noble household in the GDL in the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. Tasks for the research: 1) to examine the aspects of the development and differentiation of noble manor homesteads through the prism of social status, affluence and regionalism; 2) to discover living conditions of noble family on their homesteads and the differences existing in those conditions and their development through analysis of architectural and planning features of residential homes, the range of architecture of buildings for noble property and possessions stored inside; 3) to study the kitchen of nobles, analyzing buildings dedicated to storage of food products; architecture and outfitting of separate buildings utilized for food and drink preparation; and daily and holiday food rations; 4) to discover the range of economic activities by nobles; 5) to define aspects of the different social categories of servants in life and work at the household: structure and size of unfree family and free manor family, functions of servants, living conditions and relationship with masters.
