Tasks of work: 1. To determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy techniques for tension-type headaches and migraines. 2. To evaluate the methodological aspects of physiotherapy in the management of tension-type headaches and migraine. Materials and methods: EBSCO, WebOfScience and Pubmed databases were used for this 2022-2024 systematic literature review, and PICO criteria were applied throughout. The most up-to-date articles are used, with easy-to-understand data in tabular form. This review analysed 22 publications on the management of migraine and tension-type headaches, within a maximum range of 7 years. A variety of sources from studies from 2017 to 2024 were used to collect information on methods. The reliability of the studies was extracted using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results: An extensive literature research across several databases found 1397 publications. After the identification and screening phases, 22 studies were included in the systematic review. After analysis, 17 publications demonstrated the effectiveness of different physiotherapy methods for treating migraine and tension-type headache. 7 studies analysed the effectiveness of traditional physiotherapy methods, 4 studies investigated complex physiotherapy treatments, and 11 analysed innovative physiotherapy treatments. 6 publications investigated the frequency, intensity, and duration of tension-type headaches. A statistically significant (p<0.05) improvement was found for all the mentioned indicators: headache frequency, intensity and duration. Conclusions: I. Analysis of 22 sources suggests that traditional, complex and innovative physiotherapy methods help to reduce the frequency, intensity and duration of pain in migraine and tension-type headache sufferers. II. Effectiveness on the above indicators depends on the method of intervention. Both traditional and complex treatment methods have the best effect on the duration of headaches. Considering the effect of physiotherapy methods on the control groups, the frequency and intensity of headaches are best controlled by traditional treatment methods. |
